Borrowing from other libraries
Would you like to borrow a book or journal the Utrecht University Library does not hold? Than you can request the material from other libraries in the Netherlands and from foreign libraries via Utrecht University Library. This is called interlibrary loan (ILL).
Costs for Interlibrary Loan
Are you not a UU or UMC employee and want to borrow from another library? Then there are costs involved.
Request material from other libraries
You request the material from other libraries via WorldCat with a valid library card and (guest) Solis ID.
Please note:
It may happen that foreign material is not for loan but for consultation only. In that case you must consult the material in the Special Collections Reading Room in the University Library Utrecht Science Park. Special rules apply to the reading room.
Loan period
ILL material is automatically renewed three times. The material can be recalled earlier by the holding library.
Other benefits for students and staff
As a student or employee of Utrecht University, you can apply for a free pass at other Dutch university libraries and at the library of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. This means that, when you visit another library? Then you can borrow books for free with that pass. Please note: this is not the same as interlibrary loan (ILL). With ILL, you request material via the Utrecht University Library. Students and private borrowers pay charges for ILL.
In addition, Utrecht University students can register as borrowers at a 50 % discount at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library of the Netherlands).
