Study spaces, group study rooms and reference spaces
In both library locations there is room to study, both individually and with a group. A part of the study spaces is openly available and part can be booked by students and staff of Utrecht University. The group spaces are only available by reservation.
The study spaces are divided into openly available places and bookable spaces. The openly available spaces are indicated by green stickers on the tables with the text "Study space, openly available" and are available to all University Library visitors. In the University Library City Centre, the spaces are located in zones B, C, D and E. In the University Library Utrecht Science Park they can be found on the ground floor, the mezzanine, the first and second floor.
The bookable spaces can be recognised by red stickers on the tables with the text "Study space, reservations only". These spaces can only be booked by Utrecht University staff and students. They can be reserved two days in advance via bookings.uu.nl. Upon arrival, check in via the QR code found on the sticker. If you have not checked in within the first half hour of your booked time, your reservation will expire. If you leave earlier than planned, please check out so that the space can be used by others.

UU students and staff can also reserve group spaces to work together. These can be recognised by the yellow stickers and the text "Group space, reservations only". One group member books the space and checks in. If you have not checked in within the first half hour of your booked time, your reservation will expire. Are you leaving earlier than planned? Then check out, so that the space becomes available again. Group spaces can also be reserved two days in advance for a minimum of two and a maximum of four hours.
There are a (limited) number of reference spaces in each library location. These are intended for visitors who are not affiliated with the UU and who want to consult the (digital) library collection. These spaces cannot be used as study spaces. Visitors who want to use a reference space are asked to register at the service desks. If you want to consult the digital collection, please bring your own device to connect to the UU network.
In order to give UU students as much space as possible, access to the University Library is limited during exam periods. All study spaces, including those that do not need to be booked, will only be available to UU students. The reference spaces will remain available for visitors who are not affiliated with the UU.
