Codes of conduct
Utrecht University has established specific regulations governing conduct. These are based on the key principles of professional and quality academic conduct and ethically-responsible research.
On 1 October 2018, The Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity 2018 (pdf), enters into force. The Code sets out the principles that should be observed by each individual concerned, which are honesty, scrupulousness, transparency, independence and responsibility.
July 2014 saw the introduction of the Code of Conduct for Scrupulous Academic Practice and Integrity (pdf). It describes the key principles of a scrupulous and ethical organisational culture in education and research and how the university community achieves and monitors this.

The Code of Conduct (pdf) provides the framework for behaviour and reflection for employees and students of Utrecht University. The Code describes the values that govern the way people work and study at the University.
Utrecht University has also signed the Dutch Code of Conduct for international students, which guarantees proper recruitment, selection and coaching of international students.
In which language is a course offered? To what extent is the information on our websites bilingual? How do we ensure that we extend a warm welcome to Dutch-speaking and international colleagues and students and provide them with access to the same information? Utrecht University has regulations governing ancillary activities. It is a requirement of some job categories that the ancillary activities be disclosed via a statement on the profile page. This is the case for professors, for example. Read more about ancillary activities.
The 'Code goed bestuur' (Good Governance Code) has been drawn up and signed by all Dutch universities. This code forms the framework for transparency and accountability in the governance of universities.
Utrecht University has a Code of Conduct for Inappropriate Behaviour to prevent and combat inappropriate behaviour. This code of conduct contains more information about what falls under inappropriate behaviour. Read more on the code on the page about social safety.
As of 1 January 2019 Utrecht University is required to have a protocol for suspicion of domestic violence and child abuse regarding students and employees.
