Structure and Function of Host Defence Molecules

Our main goal is to determine the relation between the structural features of host defence molecules (peptides and proteins) and their modes of action (interactions with pathogens and with components of the immune system). We hope that, ultimately, our understanding of the mechanisms of action of these natural anti-infectives may lead to strategies to treat or prevent infections and to modulate the inflammatory response.

Host defence peptide CATH-2 (green) binds E.coli and kills the bacteria (turn red).
