Cell Biology, Metabolism & Cancer
The division of Cell Biology, Metabolism & Cancer conducts fundamental and applied research into the dynamics of biological membranes. The division has access to high-quality research facilities, such as advanced microscopes and mass spectrometers. These facilities are also available to outside parties.
Mission
The division's goal is to advance and promote knowledge of the dynamics of cellular membranes. In so doing, the department contributes to our understanding of the origins, development and prognosis (pathogenesis) of diseases and disorders in humans and animals. In order to realise these goals, the division studies:
- the communications between individual cells
- the composition and transport mechanisms of animal cell membranes
- the synthesis, storage and breakdown of lipids
