About the Faculty

At our faculty, animals are central. We train the veterinarians of the future, provide care, and conduct groundbreaking research. We take a broad perspective: we constantly realize that the health and well-being of animals, people, and the environment are inextricably linked.

How do we transition to sustainable, more animal-friendly, and circular agriculture? What can be done about back pain in animals and humans? What have we learned from the COVID pandemic? And how do we take responsibility to help solve the shortage of veterinarians in practice?

To study and effectively solve the issues of today and tomorrow, broad collaboration is needed. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine contributes to this as a veterinary knowledge center. We share our knowledge with society wherever we can, for example in advisory councils of ministries, during public events, or in risk assessments commissioned by government agencies.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is a unique institution. For over 200 years, we have been the only place in the Netherlands where veterinarians are trained. This creates a strong bond between our students, staff, alumni, and partners. Furthermore, we conduct interdisciplinary research and provide care to tens of thousands of animals each year in our academic veterinary hospital and university farm animal practice.

On this page, we introduce ourselves to you. If you see opportunities for collaboration or would like to work with us, we would love to get in touch! If you support our research and would like to contribute financially, you can do so via Friends of Veterinary Medicine.
