Animals in Science and Society

The division of Animals in Science and Society focuses on issues pertaining to the position of animals in our society, in the broadest sense.

Mission

We strive to contribute to improving animal welfare by:

  • developing evidence-based methods for understanding animal emotions
  • studying the interaction between the animals’ genetic backgrounds and their environments
  • encouraging the development of methods that can replace, reduce or refine the use of animals for experimental testing
  • studying the relationships between animals and humans in various contexts, as well as the related ethical and judicial issues.
