Required Documents

We require you to upload a scan of your passport or a valid EU Identification card. 

• Make sure that you have a valid identification for each nationality you disclose in your application profile.
• The copy of the passport and ID card must correspond with the nationalities that you fill out. 
• Please send a copy of both the front and back of your ID card.
• If you have a Dutch residence permit, please also upload a copy of both sides.

Please refer to the table below regarding the academic documentation required to complete your application. If the documents are not in Dutch, English, German, Spanish or French, you must provide an official English translation. Please note that we do not accept predicted grades.

UCU reserves the right to withdraw the conditional offer if the exam results/diplomas submitted with your application change or have not been successfully achieved.

English is the official language at University College Utrecht. Applicants are required to demonstrate proof of proficiency. 

For your application to be complete and considered, all documents, including proof of your English proficiency and your reference form, must be uploaded before the application deadline (see Admission Procedure). 

To treat all candidates equally, we cannot make exceptions. Your English proficiency results need to be in the form of an official certificate or you need to authorize University College Utrecht to verify your results online. Incomplete applications cannot be considered and will be rendered inactive.

Please check the Entry Requirements page to see whether you need to provide proof of English proficiency and which tests are accepted.

Applicants are required to submit a Statement of Academic Motivation as part of their application.

Please answer the following questions in approximately 300-500 words (in total*):

• How would the Liberal Arts and Sciences programme at University College Utrecht contribute to your academic and personal ambitions in ways that other programmes would not?
• What would you most like to study at University College Utrecht and how do you see those subjects combining? What led you to these interests?

*Please note: the 300-500 word limit is in response to all questions, not per question. All questions in the statement of academic motivation should be answered in a combined total of 300-500 words.

We would like to better understand what you are involved in outside of class in an effort to learn about what interests you and how you are engaged in the world around you. Some students participate in organisations within their schools or in their community, some work part-time jobs or volunteer, and others have family or personal responsibilities.

The UCU activities form collects information about your most meaningful activities, responsibilities, and hobbies. Any and every type of activity or commitment can be listed in this form (see page 2 of the form). Some family or personal responsibilities can require a significant commitment of time and effort. If these responsibilities are a significant part of your life, you are encouraged to include them in the designated area of this form (see page 3 of the form).

As part of their application, all applicants should complete and submit the UCU Activities Form.

We require you to invite one academic referee to submit the UCU teacher Recommendation Survey, written in English, on your behalf. An academic referee is a former or current teacher who has taught you in a classroom setting.

Please note: we do not accept personalised letters of recommendation; we will only consider the responses submitted to the survey.

What do you need to do?

• Contact your teacher and invite them to give their references for your university application.
• At the start of your online application, there will be a section for you to enter the contact details of your referee.
• After you have submitted these details, your referee will be automatically contacted and provided 10 working days to complete our standardised recommendation form confidentially through the online application portal Osiris.

Referee deadline:

It is your responsibility to follow up with your referees and ensure that the recommendation form is submitted before the deadline. Should your referee miss the 10-working-day deadline, you will be alerted on your application to re-submit referee contact information.

In order to maintain consistency across all applications, we request that each applicant provide only one academic referee.
