Celebrating 25 years of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Utrecht

University College Utrecht is the first and pioneering university college in the Netherlands, and for the last 25 years has been carrying out its mission of offering students an open curriculum and unique educational experience, while nurturing and sustaining a close knit international community on its residential campus. With the 5th Lustrum, we would like to underline and celebrate the following themes.

Celebrating the contributions of liberal arts and sciences in Dutch society, politics, academia
University college academics and students make significant contributions to the development of scientific knowledge in the Netherlands and as an honours college, UCU is at the forefront of scientific curiosity and research. University college alumni work and contribute to society in many key areas, from politics to diplomacy, the arts, journalism and law By focusing on the work of UCU academics and students we would like to celebrate and highlight these contributions

The importance of academic curiosity and freedom to explore
In line with the impact of liberal arts and sciences in society and scientific development, we also focus on the approach to education in liberal arts and sciences, the freedom the domain offers to follow academic curiosity and explore the different disciplines on offer. To this end, we highlight the diversity of the curriculum at UCU and the different paths that students have followed in their research and careers.

The unique community and culture of University College Utrecht
Since the start of University College Utrecht, the institution has been built up and developed jointly with the efforts staff and students to become the vibrant and unique experience it is today. The students not only study but live together on campus, developing cultural understandings and appreciation for others that would have been otherwise impossible. Still to this day, students take the lead in organizing committees to fulfill the necessities of social life on campus, and form a completely self sufficient community.
