Experimenting with XR in your education

Would you like to use XR in your teaching practice, but aren’t quite sure how? A short consultation could help you develop your ideas further.

The CAT has five VR headsets (Oculus Quest 1) available for educational use. However, there are a few points to bear in mind:

  • The Oculus Quest 1 is an outdated VR headset. We cannot therefore guarantee that the application you wish to install on it will work.
  • Official support from the manufacturer for these VR headsets has ended; the VR headsets have been reset to factory settings.
  • We cannot offer any additional support when lending out the Oculus Quest 1.

Would you still like to borrow these VR headsets to use (and explore) in your teaching? Please contact Teaching Support.

We also manage Meta Quest 3 VR headsets. These headsets are up to date, and we can provide support and guidance for their use in education. Would you like to use the Meta Quest 3 in your teaching? This is possible through an educational pilot. Please contact the XR project leaders to discuss the possibilities for an educational pilot.

Use outside of teaching

Are you not part of the teaching staff but would still like to borrow VR headsets? Please do let us know! If we receive a high number of requests, we may have a use case for rolling out VR headsets more widely within the university. Without such a request, we can currently only support teaching through pilot schemes.
