Crossing Borders: Languages and Cultures in Contrast
Have you always wanted to know more about languages and cultures than you can cover with one bachelor's degree? Then the unique Utrecht study track 'Crossing Borders' is a good match for you! (The track is available in the German, French, Italian, Dutch and Spanish language and culture BA programmes.)
Across the border
Taking the ‘Crossing borders’ track means that you follow your regular language- and culture-specific BA programme but that you also participate in four English-run seminars where you join students from other BA programmes in an interdisciplinary research community to tackle language and culture research from a comparative perspective.
Practical matters
To follow the Crossing Borders track, you enroll for the BA programme of your choice. Registration for the track itself follows in the course of Year 1 with the special seminars taking place in Year 2.
The track is set up in such a way that you add a comparative component on top of your full-fledged language- and culture-specific programme. This guarantees access to all the MA programmes that build on your regular BA, and we’ve also made sure you can combine the track with a stay abroad.
Crossing borders empowers our students to deepen their language and culture-specific expertise through broad comparative research seminars where they are in the lead.
The courses
In the overview below, we included the four research-oriented seminars that we especially designed for the track. They take you from translation studies over intercultural communication to linguistics, literature, and culture. Students of the participating BA programmes can also take these courses as electives.
