A Botanic Gardens Friendship runs from 1 January to 31 December (a calendar year). Each year on 31 December, the Friendship is automatically renewed unless you terminate your Friendship on 31 December at the latest. In January each year, your Friendship fee will be collected by direct debit.

If you become a Friend, your Friendship starts when you become a Friend and lasts until 31 December of the relevant year. If you have not cancelled by then, your Friendship is automatically renewed for another year.

If you become a Friend after 1 September, you do not pay until January of the following year. Your Friendship is then valid until 31 December of the following year.

When you become a Friend, you will receive - once only - a Friend's Pass. Your pass will remain valid and activated as long as you remain a Friend. Your pass gives you free entry to the Gardens at all times during regular opening hours. You can also use your pass to enter through the turnstile gates at the main entrance. Very handy on busy days (no need to queue at the counter).

When you cancel your Friendship, we deactivate the card and ask you to return the Friendship card to us. We can then reuse the cards.

So you will not (anymore) receive a new Friends Pass every year, as you did until 2021.

In 2022, we moved away from sending out a new Friends Pass every year. For everyone when they were Personal Friend or Personal Friend Plus, a new Friends Pass was created that you could pick up at the entrance building counter. Many did, but many did not. In June 2023 we send all Friends who did not collect their Friends Pass up till then, their pass by regular mail (together with the Friends Magazine). Do you have a question about this? Note: Are you still a 'Steunvriend' and do you pay less than Euro 35 per year? Then you are not entitled to a Friend Pass. Of course, you can always 'upgrade' to a Personal Friendship (free entry for one person) or a Personal Friendship Plus (free entry for two people). Send us an e-mail if you want to upgrade your Friendship.
