Ethical review
The Ethics Review Board of the faculties of Science and Geosciences, known in Dutch as the ETC Bèta-Geo, provides upon request a professional and independent ethical review of proposals for research involving human subjects and gives advice upon these. The purpose of the review is to safeguard the rights, safety and well-being of the participants in the research. The review framework for the committee is formed by behavioural and professional codes of conduct and national and international laws and regulations.
The committee reviews proposals for research involving human subjects that, in its opinion, are not within the scope of the Medical Research (Human Subjects) Act (WMO), or that are not found to be subject to the WMO by the Medical Ethics Review Committee.
The ETC Bèta-Geo is made up of members of the faculties of Science and Geosciences. It only reviews research proposals which take place under the responsibility of these faculties.
