Project Life Cycle
Utrecht University and the Faculty of Geosciences offer a wide variety of services during different phases of the ’Project Life Cycle’. At the Faculty of Geosciences, the Research Support Office supports researchers throughout the entire research process; from your initial research idea, the phase of designing and writing a research proposal and getting funding, to the phase of running and closing your project. We offer information and service on funding opportunities, preparing your proposal including how to write your proposal, funding agencies, career planning, research integrity, research infrastructure and data, privacy, impact and open science, and more.
On the pages below you can find information per phase about Utrecht University's services, services specific for Geoscientists, and background information.
Develop project idea
Get inspired by colleagues and people in your department to develop your research plans. Start thinking about societal impact, ethics, research integrity, and Open Science, and consider the context of your own career.
Funding orientation phase
Start looking for financial resources. This pertains finances to perform your research - including a budget you will need for data management, societal impact, and open science.
Designing and writing your proposal
Find information on designing your proposal, including cooperation, large-scale programmes, data management, privacy, ethics, societal impact, writing, preparing and approving budgets.
Submitting your proposal
Avoid last-minute delays by checking institutional procedures for collecting the required institutional signatures and submitting a proposal to a funding agency, before you apply for funding.
Proposal granted: starting your project
Once your proposal is granted, you will need to do a few things to ensure a swift start of your project, including how to register your award, writing your data management plan, and getting ethics approval.
Running your project
You are almost ready to start your research project. Learn more about (FAIR) data and finance management, privacy, impact and outreach, commercialisation and entrepreneurship, and PURE.
Closing your project
Now that your project has come to an end, there are still aspects that require your attention, such as reporting requirements from the funding agency and data archiving.
