Apply for a Right To Learn Fund grant

First read the the fund's criteria below carefully, make sure you have the necessary attachments at hand and then go to the funding request portal via the button at the bottom of this page.

Which projects are eligible for funding?

Providing financial support to young people (prospective students, students and young researchers) in relation to Utrecht University, at a time in their lives when lack of finances is an obstacle to their (further) study development. The fund also supports initiatives and projects that aim to help financially more vulnerable groups (such as refugees and other disadvantaged groups) to get the most out of their talents, either by promoting progression to higher education, or by enabling access to the Dutch university system in relation to Utrecht University. It should be clear from the candidate's application that the requested amount is necessary to achieve academic goals.

Suitable project proposals:

  • fall outside the primary tasks that are (or should be) financed from regular business operations or from own resources;
  • fall outside the criteria that apply to third-flow funding (contract research and contract teaching);
  • assume a maximum support of € 10,000 per project, for individual applications in principle € 5,000;
  • must be feasible, including in terms of financing, and is very sound and thoroughly substantiated in this regard (a larger own contribution is a plus).

Procedure and communication

Project proposals include the following elements:

  • Project description including planning and expected results;
  • Budget including coverage plan that includes the personal contribution of the submitting component (in money and possibly in kind, provision of people, resources, infrastructure, etc.). Make sure that the budget is in a clear format where costs and benefits are displayed in separate columns on the left and right sides of the budget;
  • Letter of recommendation from dean, head of department or director.

The advisory committee of the RightToLearn Fund makes a selection of project proposals that it proposes to the board of the Utrecht University Fund. If you have any questions about submitting an application, please contact Caroline van de Beek: c.a.vandebeek@uu.nl.
