People increasingly need to stay connected, and there are many ways to do so. One of our goals, therefore, is to provide Utrecht University and its visitors with the best IT systems possible for communicating with each other and working together.
This begins with ongoing attention to basic facilities such as phones, hardware, e-mail and workstations. We make sure that there is a great selection of hardware available that is suitable for a wide range of purposes, and that all applications remain up to date.
We also invest in new ways to connect with colleagues, suppliers and customers. Microsoft Lync, which is an excellent way to chat and organise video conferences, is available to everyone with a university ID. Co-workers can also connect socially via Yammer and our intranet.
Quick and easy sharing of data is also essential in the new "any place, any time, any device" style of working that we promote. With SURFdrive, you can store your documents in a secure cloud environment. Sharepoint is available for sharing documents with groups of people, and SURFfiletransfer makes it possible to send large documents quickly and easily.
Our work in this area is customer-driven as well as technology-driven. For instance, if faculty members have a specific request for a special application that is not generally available, we do our best to make sure they get access to it.
