In development
Within Future Learning Spaces, we work to ensure that learning environments support innovative forms of education. Together with teachers, students, and staff, we design, realize, use, and evaluate experimental learning spaces.
FLS applies a creatively and sustainably embedded innovation process in which didactics and student learning are central. The process consists of four phases:
Initiation & orientation
Concept development & design
Realization & use
Evaluation & completion
At present, the following concepts are in phase 2 of the innovation process. In this phase, FLS develops practically applicable concepts through co-creation, based on its own didactic principles, translating the educational vision into the physical learning environment.
Spaces in Development:

Outdoor Learning Space
In the Botanical Garden, a “route” is being developed with separate elements that invite active (learning) activities. This route can be used by UU students, faculty and staff alike.

Collaborative Classroom
In the city center, we are working to create a collaborative classroom. This multipurpose classroom supports two important functions in education in one space, it can both lecture and collaborate in groups.

Extended Reality (XR) Space
With the realization of a physical learning environment for XR education, we aim to explore how XR education can be optimally supported within a space, and how such environments should be organized and embedded.
