IMAU staff is involved with the organisation and teach courses at several (inter)national summer schools. These summer schools provide short intensive courses within the field of meteorology, oceanography and climate at different educational levels, from bachelor to post graduate level.
USPC is short for Utrecht Summer school on Physics of the Climate system.
This course aims at beginning Master’s and advanced Bachelor’s students. This summer school provides an introduction to climate studies from the wide range of perspectives that Utrecht University has to offer. A systematic treatment of geophysical fluid dynamics is combined with thematic lectures on current research addressing each of the five IMAU research themes. The course is held each year in the second half of August.
Karthaus Summer School on Ice Sheets and Glaciers in the Climate System
This course provides a basic introduction to the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets with a focus on ice-climate interactions. The course is meant for Ph.D. students that work on (or will soon start working on) a glaciology-related climate project. A few places are available for junior scientists. The course is held each year in the first half of September.
