Work faster thanks to 1GB network connection

In 2015-2016, there has been a silent network revolution. The network speed for every office and study space has been increased from 100 Megabits to no less than 1 Gigabit per second. Data exchanged via the UU network will consequently load even faster. The only effect of this change that users will have noticed is the higher network speed when using a PC or laptop.

Other factors can also influence the working speed experienced, such as the application being used or the operations being performed. The computer may still state a lower speed. This will usually be due to older cabling or other factors that prevent a higher speed. So far, 84% of the more than 26,000 network connections have access to this new faster connection. ITS works continuously to improve its services and aims to eventually increase the speed of every network connection to 1 GB.

This higher speed is only applicable to office and study spaces. The speed of ‘specials’, such as research environments, has not been increased to avoid the conversion causing any failures to occur. The speed of these connections can be increased to 1 GB on request.
