Happy Hours

The Happy Hours of the Faculty Club are monthly music themed meetings. Have a chat while enjoying live music, a drink (at half a price) and snacks. In the past year, the Happy Hours were more and more often about a current theme with interesting lectures for a broad audience. The Happy Hours are a beautiful and accessible way to meet each other.

Some examples:

  • On 5 September 2019, there was a festive Happy Hour for the anniversary of the Universiteitsblad (also known as Ublad and currently as DUB). During this evening, the anniversary magazine StudentenStad was presented and there was a brief observation of the 50-year history of university journalism.
  • On 7 November 2019, the Happy Hour paid special attention to one of the strategic research themes of the university: Life Sciences with Dr Bart Gadella as a guest speaker. Later in the evening, there was a competition for the desirable title of Faculty Club Pubquizmaster. This time, the Pubquiz was designed by alumnus and Dutch Pubquiz champion Abel Gilsing. While enjoying a tasty drink and a snack, members were challenged to answer questions involving all four strategic research themes of the university.
  • On 6 February 2020, we organised a wintery Happy Hour with live jazz followed by a wintery game night. Musicologist Prof. Dr. Emile Wennekes treated us to a short causerie on the long-term relationship between jazz and cinema on an international level. Mathilda Copinga, a mathematics alumnus and game enthusiast, took us on a journey in ‘Welcome to’ (winner of the Nederlandse spellenprijs, 2019) and ‘7 Wonders’ (winner of the Gouden Ludo, 2011).
