Dr. Marij Swinkels

Marij Swinkels works as a lecturer, researcher, and advisor at the Department of Public Administration and Organization Science (Faculty of Law, Economics, Governance and Organization).

Her research focuses on the role and influence of individuals in governance and policy, in particular the processes in which they convert their ideas into solutions for social issues. She mainly does this in the areas of climate policy and economic policy.

As an advisor at USBO-advies, she uses her broad administrative and organizational scientific knowledge, for example in recent research into transgressive behavior in the House of Representatives. In both research and education, she prefers to work from the principles of open science, where her work within science is always connected and convincing to the world outside. For example, she learns and works with students and professionals in her course about long-term thinking in public organizations, or she collaborates with social partners such as the Kiesmannen in research.

As a teacher, Marij is always looking for opportunities to improve and innovate education, and she is therefore a member of the education board within her department.

How can the ideas of leaders, policymakers, and citizens contribute to policies that are in the interest of a livable future?

Marij Swinkels has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a bridge between young and talented researchers, since 2024.
