Dr. Mira Scholten

Miroslava (Mira) Scholten is an Associate Professor of EU Law. Her research focuses on addressing the societal and academic challenge of how we could make better laws and policies in the EU. In 2016, she received a Veni grant to execute the project 'Shared enforcement but separated controls in the EU - how to make it work for democracy and the rule of law?'

She holds degrees in International Relations (from Russia and the University of Amsterdam, both with distinction) and an LLM in International and EU Law (University of Amsterdam). She defended her PhD dissertation on the political accountability of EU and US independent agencies in Maastricht.

Mira Scholten has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a bridge between young and talented researchers, since 2018.
