Dr. Jeroen Hopster

Jeroen Hopster is an assistant professor at the Ethics Institute. He examines the changing nature of human morality, and how it takes shape in interaction with technology, conceptual change and social revolutions. He is also conducting research with a VENI grant into the 'winners' and 'losers' of the climate transition, within the NWO VENI project Lost in Transition (2024-2028). He previously conducted research into the role of uncertainty in climate ethics with a Rubicon grant. Jeroen is a 'public engagement fellow' of the Ethics Institute and regularly publishes philosophy books for a broader audience, on various topics: coincidence, 'what if' history fallacies, intercultural philosophy, and Buddhism.

From a Maori adage:
We look forward to the past and walk backward into the future.

Jeroen Hopster has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a meeting place for young talented scientists, since 2024.
