Curious children who like to investigate can go and do research in Utrecht this summer, together with scientists from Utrecht University. During Summerschool Junior they will work on the theme 'air quality', to which Roel Vermeulen and his team will contribute.
Out of the seven Gravitation grants, two are granted to projects led by Utrecht Faculty of Science researchers: Prof. Anna Akhmanova (cell biology) and Prof. Daniel Vanmaekelbergh (nanomaterials).
Dutch researchers have been able to properly determine the composition of a healthy gut microbiome through large-scale research in more than 8,200 Lifelines participants. The detailed analysis, reported in Nature, allowed the researchers to not only compile a deep catalog of the microbiome, but also to indicate which gut microbes are associated with disease and which with health.
