Activities

Activities of the Network for Environmental Humanities include a monthly lecture series, our reading group, film screenings and international symposia.

Monthly lectures and gatherings

Microfoon.

For our monthly lecture series, we organise talks, readings, and conversations with guest speakers as well as our own members. These events cover a broad range of topics from different environmental humanities fields and expertises, and bring together a diverse community of (PhD) students and researchers, artists, practitioners, and activists. These events are free and open to the public. In addition we organise monthly social gatherings for network members, to catch up with colleagues, discuss research, and meet new people. Every month, one or more speakers from the network will share their research on a specific theme.

    Reading groups

    Environmental Humanities

We organise a recurring reading group where we discuss recent texts that engage with key issues in Environmental Humanities. The aim of the group is to read a broad variety of material, ranging from novels or short stories to journal articles and book chapters, to philosophy and theory.

      Un-earthed

Un-earthed is an environmental humanities reading group hosted by Laura op de Beke, Assistant Professor in media studies. We read academic work and short fiction, and we don’t mind meeting online for convenience. Feel free to pitch a reading at l.h.opdebeke@uu.nl.

      International Symposia

Each year, our network convenes symposia and workshops to bring together scholars and practitioners from different fields and disciplines around the key topics and research lines of our Network. Our aim is to create connections not just on a local and national, but also an international level. To this end we organise international symposia, facilitating the exchange of ideas across borders.
