About

The Utrecht University Network for Environmental Humanities was officially launched on 15 November 2021. It is a platform that brings together and supports researchers with an interest in environmental humanities with the aim of exchanging ideas and creating new synergies across disciplines.

Mission

The Network for Environmental Humanities brings together scholars from different fields and disciplines with an interest in the relationship between humans and the natural world. The network is conceived as an open, bottom-up, experimental community open to anyone committed to questions of ecology, sustainability, and environmental justice.

We are dedicated to advancing research, education, and international collaboration in the field of the environmental humanities. We strive to be a space where scholars can meet and exchange ideas, where new synergies across disciplines can be created, and from which future research agendas can emerge. We also aim to create a space for critical self-reflection about interdisciplinary collaboration: how can the human, natural and social sciences cooperate as equal partners? Closer collaboration and inspiration across disciplinary boundaries are crucial, and the expertise and skillsets of all disciplines are required in the face of the current climate emergency.
