Roundtable discussion 10 February “Let’s discuss how Open Science affects our publishing strategy"

Kick-off discussion series "Publishing in Transition"

To what extent does Utrecht University's Open Science approach, in particular Recognition and Rewards, affect the way researchers publish? On the 10th of February, the University Library's Publishing Support organises a roundtable about this topic introduced by the rector.

Researchers and students from Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht are cordially invited to join the conversation and ask questions. Put the date in your agenda and sign upThursday 10 February 2022 from 17.00 to 18.00.

Publishing in transition

How do researchers determine how and where to publish now that for instance impact factors no longer are the main focus in evaluations? To what extent does the shift to team science also penetrate the publishing process, and what are the experiences in the publishing of interdisciplinary research? These are questions that will be discussed during the roundtable and the further discussion series that is to follow.

An open conversation

There are many questions among researchers about the practical implications of open science (‘what are the consequences for me and for the way in which I perform research?’). This event examines the experienced effects on a vital part of science: publishing. It is important to have a discussion about this within the university. Rector Henk Kummeling endorses this viewpoint and that is why he will open the roundtable on 10 February.

After his introduction, Professor Bert Weckhuysen (Faculty of Science), Associate Professor and member of the Utrecht Young Academy Amir Raoof (Faculty of Geosciences) and postdoc Tessa Coffeng (Faculty of Social and Behaviourial Sciences) will share their own experiences. Next the audience is given the opportunity to respond and join the discussion. Moderator is Stans de Haas, project manager of Recognition and Rewards.

Discussion Series Publishing in Transition

This roundtable meeting kicks off the "Publishing in Transition" discussion series. Team Publishing Support of Utrecht University Library organises this series in cooperation with the Open Science Programme. In this series the central question will be what the effect is on publishing with the introduction of Open Science at Utrecht University. This question will be discussed from several perspectives. Subjects of discussion that arise during this kick-off will be included in the planning of the discussion series.

Publishing support

Utrecht University Library's Publishing Support is a service for researchers and research groups of the UU. A team of experts assists in finding a fitting publication strategy that results in a large (academic) outreach. During this process, publishing in Open Access is an important spearhead.
