Department of Pharmaceutical Science
Research work of the Heck group focuses on the development and implementation of innovative mass spectrometric methods for the more efficient and detailed characterization of proteins in relation to their biological function.
The Heck group has world-renowned expertise in the analysis of protein-ligand, protein-protein and protein-DNA analysis by mass spectrometry. The facility is also hosted by the group at the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research.
The facility coordinates the EU funded, EPIC-XS project, launched in 2019, providing access to leading proteomics facilities and research groups in Europe.
The Wennekes laboratory works in the exiting area of chemical glycobiology. We develop smart glycan-based chemical probes that help illuminate and perturb the role of glycans and the proteins involved in their life-cycle.
The Wennekes laboratory is part of the Department of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (headed by Prof. dr. Geert-Jan Boons) within the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research and the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) at the Utrecht University Faculty of Science.
Research work involves disease management of immune related disorders using food and/or pharma
Research work involves the application of biotechnology to produce lipid and protein-based drug delivery systems at the nano-scale.
Research work involves investigation of cancer immunotherapies.
Domenico Fasci is involved in one of the three showcase projects related to the UMI Hub. This project will identify ligands of γδ TCR receptors targeting cancer cells, and the the role they play in attacking leukemic blasts. It will merge state of the art mass spectrometry methods with T cell engineering technologies. Protein – protein interactions will be studied by structural biology such as cyro-electron tomography and solid state NMR.
This project is a collaborative effort with the group of prof. dr. Albert Heck.
