If you want to talk to someone at Utrecht University (UU) in confidence, it can sometimes be difficult to find the best person to help you. Use this selection guide to find out who you can approach in which situation and what you can expect. Having doubts? Please don’t hesitate to contact us anyway. If someone else is in a better position to help you, you will be guided to the right person.
Students, PhD candidates and staff
I want to speak to someone about inappropriate behaviour For example, is there (sexual) harrassment, discrimination or bullying going on in the study or work environment? Inappropriate behaviour can also include nasty jokes, excluding people, racist comments in WhatsApp groups, sexual comments and/or photos, bullying behaviour, intimidating behaviour, gossip and more.
I want to speak to someone about research integrity Do you suspect someone is manipulating data or sources, or presenting results incorrectly? Or do you think someone is handling data carelessly or is dependent on political or commercial influences?
Students
I want to speak to someone about mental health Do you suffer from mental health problems related to or affecting your studies? Do you need (short-term) help with issues such as anxiety symptoms, concentration problems, study stress or neurodivergence?
I want to talk to someone about a complaint Are you a student and do you want to file a complaint about services or an employee? Denk bij voorbeeld aan het niet nakomen van de programmering van het onderwijs of de tentamens, gebrekkige of ontbrekende faciliteiten of de manier waarop een brief is beantwoord.
Talk in confidence about something else Are you a student and are you in a different situation than described? Then check the student website for a total overview of the support staff you can turn to.
Staff (including PhD candidates)
I want to speak to someone about problems at work or at home Do you have a difficult situation, within your work or outside it? And is this affecting your work? Are you experiencing a tense or uncertain situation and not sure how to move forward with it? For example stress, work-life imbalance or dealing with drastic events?
Personnel or ombuds-related matters Are you an employee at UU and do you have a concern about a work-related matter, such asassessments, career moves, the relationship with your manager, working conditions, cooperation with colleagues, appointments and contracts, or other work-related topics?
I want to speak to someone about wrongdoing in the organisation Do you suspect wrongdoing in the organisation, e.g. acting illegally, or injustice?
PhD candidates
I want to speak to someone about mental health Do you suffer from mental problems related to your PhD trajectory or affecting your functioning? Do you need (short-term) help with issues such as anxiety complaints, concentration problems, work stress or neurodivergence?
I want to talk to someone about something else Are you a PhD candidate and have a different request for help than described in these situations? Then check the intranet page 'Support for PhD candidates' for an overview of the options within Graduate Schools.
Former students and former employees
Are you a former student or former employee and would you like to speak to someone in confidence about a matter relating to Utrecht University? If so, you can also get in touch with the contact persons described.
