Design based Research

In this design based research project we ask how algorithmic filtering is imagined, experienced, evaluated and manipulated by secondary education students in the Netherlands. This data informs the collective design of an educative application which aims to inform students about platform design, the algorithmic workings of it, and how these impact upon opinion formation.

We develop prototypes of the application, and research how these are used in practice. Our product is both scientific knowledge on how teaching and learning about filter bubbles works, as well as a concrete methodology and application for the teaching media literacy.
