'The mission of the ‘filter bubble’ project is to make sure that the next generation will have more control on the content they are presented with on social media platforms. What I like about it, is that it is a learning community in which students of Utrecht University, researchers, teachers, pupils and societal partners all contribute. Designing an educational app together with all these parties helps us to stay focused in reaching this goal. Our themes will change in the coming time with technological and societal developments. Our mission is to put young people at the front of such changes.'

'Social media plays a very important role in the lives of young people. It is important that together (youth, teachers, researchers and all other parties involved) we look for ways to become more aware of the influence that social media has on our lives.'

'This really is a project where science and practice come together. I believe it is important we listen to the voice of youth and see this voice reflected in the Filter bubble application.'

'I considered it very special to be introduced to the online world of teenagers. The openness with which they told their stories gave us enlightening insights into the positive and negative effects of online filter bubbles.'

'Bubbles look transparent at first, but when you examine one carefully you find that you are looking at a reflection of yourself.'
