Research female heart disease
"Specific research is necessary to optimally treat women with cardiovascular disease"
Dr Hester den Ruijter, Associate Professor Experimental Cardiology, UMC Utrecht
Every year more women than men die of cardiovascular diseases. Yet scientific studies largely focus on men. In order to provide scientific substantiation for the treatment of women with cardiovascular disease, Dr Hester den Ruijter is conducting a study into the differences between the hearts of males and females. On January 31 2019, Den Ruijter won the Agnites Vrolik prize of 25,000 euros. The Utrecht University Fund supports talented scientists with this prize.
