Prof. dr. Marijk van der Wende.

On 1 November 2017, Prof Marijk van der Wende was appointed Distinguished Professor at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. In this role, she will contribute actively to the promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration within the faculty as well as its international profile and performance.

Chair

As chair of Higher Education Systems at the Utrecht University School of Governance, Van der Wende will develop different themes concerning the challenges facing higher education as a result of globalisation. These themes are closely connected to the university-wide strategic theme Institutions for Open Societies, with a particular emphasis on Institutions for Equality, Inclusiveness and Social Mobility and Institutions for Innovation and Economic Growth. She used her inaugural address on 12 December 2016 to discuss these issues further.

Executive programme

She will also be developing a ‘Governing the university in the 21st century’ programme. This will be offered as part of the executive education programme of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance and will primarily address the role and profile of higher education.

Van der Wende is a member of Academia Europaea and an affiliate faculty and research associate at the Center for Studies in Higher Education (CSHE) at UC Berkeley.
