Law students award Lot Wolswijk and Lukas van den Berge as Teacher Talent and Outstanding Teacher 2022

At the festive opening meeting of the Utrecht University School of Law, Lot Wolwsijk and Lukas van den Berge were awarded the teacher talent and teacher prize. The JSVU did this on behalf of all law study associations in Utrecht. Both teachers were complimented on their broad knowledge and the way they hand over this broad vision to students. 

On behalf of all law students at Utrecht University, the JSVU first thanked all teachers for their work, "because these were not easy years." The speaker also emphasizsd how nice it was to meet each other again, in person, in the lecture halls and at the university, away from the screen. After this, the awards were handed out.

The jury on Lot as a winner: Although she is young herself, Lot Wolswijk is already a tutor for a first-year working group. As a result, she can explain well how things are done at the university.
She completed her bachelor's degree at Utrecht Law College and therefore gets along well with those students. In addition to her master's degree in Private Law, she also completed a master's degree in Conflict Management, Jurisprudence and Mediation at the Vrije Universiteit. She is therefore broadly educated and knows how to impart a broad vision to students.
In addition, students appreciate that Lot encourages them to be critical and not to be afraid to make mistakes.

Nominees Teacher Talent 2022

Vivek Bhatt, Assistant Professor of International Law and Human Rights within the Department of International and European Law. Students praise his critical approaches to topics and they loved how he he helps students to do research and even get it published. He bridges the gap between education and research.

Celine Taylor Parkins-Ozephius, teacher criminal law at the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology. Celine's teaching is enthousiastic and "contagious", according to students, Moreover, she creates a safe learning space in which students actively contribute to classes.

Assistant professor of legal theory.

The jury on winner Lukas: Lukas van den Berge teaches, among other things "Grondslagen van het Recht", one of the first classes for first year students. He also teaches master's programme courses, for example at University College, and supervises graduation projects and master's theses. Students praise his involvement in the material he teaches and the broad perspectives he shares with students. According to the jury, he speaks the same language as students.

Nominees Outstanding Teacher 2022

Julie Fraser, Assistant Professor with the Netherlands Insitute of Human Rights (SIM) and the Montaigne Centre at Utrecht University. Students praise how Julie activates for a more inclusive curriculum at university.

Max van Drunen, teaches at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law. Next to his work at university, he is also Partner Real Estate & Renewable Energy and Civil Law Notary. Students praise him for his: green heart and combining theory and practice in his teaching.
