Dies Natalis 2022: Curious Collaborations

Today we celebrated the 386th Anniversary Day of Utrecht University. The theme of this year’s Anniversary Day is ‘Curious Collaborations’. We teach, conduct research and share the knowledge and insights that provide the building blocks of tomorrow – all of which takes place across the boundaries of the various disciplines. Wherever different perspectives are shared, this leads to ‘curious collaborations’ and solutions that move the world forward.

The Anniversary Day started with a word of welcome by Henk Kummeling, whose remarks touched on the terrible events in Ukraine and why they are a good example of the need for solidarity and cooperation. Download the word of welcome (pdf).

The keynote speaker was Professor of Psychiatry Jim van Os. The theme of this speech was: An open science paradigm shift for the wicked problem of mental healthcare. Download the keynote speech (pdf).

During the Dies, we payed attention to the Utrecht Young Academy – a group of young, talented scientists who are leading the way in terms of unexpected partnerships. The UYA celebrates its fifth anniversary this year.

We presented the Lecturer Awards to David Onnekink en Danny Broere and we conferred honorary doctorates on Professor João Mano and Baroness Shafik – two incredibly inspiring scientists with whom we will be intensifying our cooperation in future. And we also revealed that Marion Koopmans is our Alumnus of the Year.

The ceremony was available via livestream. Watch the fragments below.
