Flexible study
During the academic year 2023-2024 students of the Graduate School of Teaching (GST) may opt for flexible study (flexstuderen). Flexible study allows students at the Graduate School of Teaching to study with more flexibility and to pay per course credit.
To be eligible for flexible study, a student needs to meet certain terms and conditions:
- You pay the statutory tuition fee.
- You belong to one of the following target groups:
- You have a job in secondary education and you want to combine this with a teacher training programme. Please note, your job must meet the GST job requirements, see the internship brochure for details.
- You are an Elite Sports Student.
- You are a member of a student board and receive a scholarship from Utrecht University in that specific academic year as compensation for board activities.
- At the start of the degree programme, you provide informal care for a close family member (please check the general information page on the UU website for a definition).
- You have a chronic illness or disability.
To participate in the experiment, you have to register for at least 15 EC in courses per academic year. There are rules regarding entry requirements, sequence and combination of courses, which you should take into account when making a study plan.
The amount of the tuition fee is determined by the number of credits of the courses you plan to take at the start of the 2023-2024 academic year. The tuition fee payable is calculated per credit: the statutory tuition fee of €2,314 (rate 2023-2024) is divided by 60, plus 15%, or €44.35 per EC.
You may always take fewer courses than you specified, but in that case no tuition fees will be refunded. This is because you pay for the education you intend to take and for which you have registered, and not for the education you actually take. If you register for more courses than you have paid for, the tuition fees will be recalculated when you re-enrol in a new course, and you will have to pay additional tuition fees for the additional courses.
