Your research in 3 minutes? Breaking Science is looking for participants!
Do you find it difficult to explain your research at parties to your friends and family? Sign up for the Breaking Science pitch competition and learn how to present your research in a short and attractive way.
Increasingly, researchers are asked to present their research in a compelling way to an audience of non-scientists. Quite a challenge to explain something you are unravelling for years in just 3 minutes! But mastering the skills of pitching and storytelling is very useful, also at conferences or for obtaining personal grants. Breaking Science is a pitch contest for young researchers organized by Utrecht University, to practice and improve this skill.
We would like to invite you to participate in Breaking Science 2024, the pitch competition for early career researchers (PhDs and postdocs). You will be trained in how to design your pitch, how to bring this to the stage and how to engage with the audience. Next, during one of the heats, you will compete with other contestants on a stage with a real audience.
A jury will assess all pitches based on content, clarity and connection. Heat winners compete again in the final on May 29th, 2024. The winner of the final receives € 1500,- to be spent on attending conferences or summer schools.
Impression Breaking Science
It was a lot of fun and I really valued the connections I made with the other participants. Now I no longer have T-rex arms during presentations and am more aware of the story I'm telling while presenting.
