Utrecht University Award for Excellence in Pharmacy 2019

Utrecht Award for prof. Hans-Georg Eichler, senior medical officer of EMA

The Utrecht University Award for Excellence in Pharmaceutical Research 2019 is awarded to Prof. Hans-Georg Eichler, Senior Medical Officer of the European Medicines Agency. He will receive the award in person during the Department Day 2019 Pharmaceutical Sciences on June 28.

The Utrecht University for Excellence in Pharmacy is a yearly price that in fact consists of two awards: one (even years) for Excellence in Pharmacy Practice and the other (odd years) for Excellence in Pharmaceutical Research to persons who have demonstrated excellence either in pharmacy practice or pharmaceutical sciences, or in both. To strengthen the idea of reaching out to the pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical research community worldwide, the successful nominees are selected from candidates outside the Utrecht department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Utrecht University Award for Excellence in Pharmaceutical Research 2019 is awarded to Hans-Georg Eichler for his superb contribution to drug regulatory sciences. He is the Senior Medical Officer of the European Medicines Agency, which is now based in the Netherlands. “Hans-Georg Eichler is a  world class scientist who has made outstanding contributions to pharmaceutical science”, says professor Bert Leufkens, who nominated Eichler for the award. “He is one of the founders of regulatory sciences. In a very early stage he realized that you have to stay close to science if you want medicines to reach the patients. Eichler is a scientist himself and he is a true connector of academia, industry and regulators.”
