Meet our student ambassadors Miriam and Iris

Master's programme Climate Physics

We are Miriam Sterl and Iris Keizer, two second-year students and student ambassadors of the Master’s programme Climate Physics of Utrecht University. As student ambassadors, we welcome prospective students from around the world and provide them with relevant information. For example, we represent our programme at events for prospective students, such as the Master’s Open Day. We also serve as a contact on the website for prospective students, where they can chat with us via the platform Unibuddy. Recently, we hosted a live Meet & Greet event, via Microsoft Teams, where prospective students could talk with us and get to know more about studying Climate Physics at Utrecht University.

It is important that prospective students receive honest and complete information from current students.

We decided to become ambassadors because we are very enthusiastic about our Master’s programme and we like to share this enthusiasm with students who are interested in studying Climate Physics. It is important that prospective students receive honest and complete information from current students. Sharing the responsibility of being ambassadors is nice, as we complement each other, and it is also more fun.

It is interesting to see what kind of questions we get, mainly from international students. Many students have questions about the admission and application process or about the content of the courses. But there are also lots of questions about the atmosphere in the programme, at Utrecht University, and in the city of Utrecht. To provide future students with an impression of the programme, student ambassadors also write testimonials about their experiences and their plans for the future. Read our testimonials below.

"The programme contains so many different subjects and offers a lot of freedom to choose and delve into topics you find more interesting. I am particularly happy that there is so much programming involved, which I always see as both an analytical and a creative challenge." Read more.

Testimonial Iris

"What I like most about the Master’s are group assignments. It is nice to work in a group and most of the assignments help you study and understand the theory. For example, using glacier displacement data to analyze how fast the glacier is sliding into the ocean or using satellite images to calculate the area of meltwater lakes in Greenland." Read more.
