Looking back at the UCERF symposium 2024
On Thursday, April 11, 2024, the 18th UCERF symposium on current developments in family law took place. This year, the hybrid symposium welcomed around 100 participants at University Hall and another 30 participants online. It was a mixed audience of lawyers, notaries, mediators, judges, legal practioners and scientists.
To celebrate the 18th edition of the symposium, Wendy Schrama opened the day with a speech on age limits in Dutch law. She was followed by three speakers who spoke on various topics: prof. mr. Machteld Vonk about surrogacy, mr. dr. Mark Beuker about succession law and dr. Sharon Stellaard about juvenile law policy.
After the break, mr. Jennifer Franken and mr. Johan the Wit continued with a presentation about a new step-by-step plan for calculating child support in blended families. They were followed by mr. dr. Lisette ten Haaf who spoke on regulating the rights of a child that has not yet been born or conceived yet. Mr. Alexander Flos ended the day by speaking on the exclusion of all community of property in prenuptials.
At the end, there was room for questions and discussion with the audience, which made it an interesting afternoon – thanks to the speakers, the organization, the sponsors and the participants.
