Book your study space at the library (or maybe not…)

From 29 August, the study spaces of Utrecht University Library have a new setup. There are openly available study spaces and bookable study spaces and group spaces. The number of study spaces stays the same.

The openly available study places are available to everyone, reservations are no longer necessary. The other study spaces and group spaces can only be booked by Utrecht University students and staff.

The different types of study spaces can be recognised by stickers on the tables. The stickers have their own colour per type of study space. Read more about study spaces and how to book them, if necessary.

Why this new division?

The library aims to be an approachable and accessible place where everyone from within and outside Utrecht University feels welcome. Offering openly available study spaces contributes to this goal. At the same time, a survey showed that part of our visitors like to book a space. In order to ensure that the service meets the wishes of our visitors as best as possible, a hybrid system is introduced. Visitors who prefer to make a reservation can continue to do so and visitors who would like to drop in to study for an hour or two are also welcome at the University Library.

Exam period

In order to give UU students as much space as possible, access to the University Library is limited during the exam periods. All study spaces, including those that do not need to be booked, will only be available to UU students. A (limited) number of "reference spaces" will remain available for visitors who want to consult the (digital) collection but are not affiliated with the UU.
