Maria Forcellino is affiliated researcher at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON) at Utrecht University (since 2018). She has been Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Salerno (1996-2010) and fellow at the Royal Dutch Institute in Rome (KNIR, 2015-2017).

Her research focuses on two subjects: Renaissance Studies, particularly the figure of Michelangelo; and the Eighteenth Century, mainly the discovery of antiquity in Hercolaneum and Pompei and the Grand Tour.

At the moment she is studying Leonardo da Vinci’s visit to Rome between 1513 and 1517.
