Renovation David de Wied building

David de Wiedgebouw impressie

The existing David de Wied building was adapted in stages. Step by step, more workplaces and excellent flexible labs were added. A new part was also built on the west side for the high-grade Electron Microscopy Centre (EM).

There is one central entrance with two entrances on the ground floor. On the west side, room was made for a green area at street level. This created a larger residential area with a pleasant terrace: the meeting place for scientists and students. A new gas park was realised on the north side. The connection to the thermal storage and the reduction of energy consumption contribute to the university's ambition to reduce CO2 emissions and become CO2 neutral in 2030.

Goal

The David de Wied building will become the high-end meeting place where research comes together: the Electron Microscopy Centre (EM) as a facility for the faculties of Science, Geosciences, Veterinary Medicine and the UMCU.
