Utrecht University, Amped and Local2Local have been collaborating in the local food domain since the spring of 2014. We set up various joint initiatives, (research) projects and pilots in which for example Green Office Utrecht, Stichting Groentetas, student communities and various partner organisations have been involved. In May 2022, Utrecht University and Amped signed a collaboration agreement to help accelerate the transition to a regional, sustainable food system.

Over the years, many Utrecht University students have been involved in internships, research projects or local jobs facilitated by Amped and Local2Local. This has provided them with the opportunity to work, gain experience and exchange knowledge in the local food chain in the Utrecht region. This was premised on the idea that the transition to a sustainable and regionally connected food system can’t be achieved without socio-cultural change and an active leading role by the next generation. In 2020 these student activities converged into the formation of Local2Local Talents.

In this weekly Talents Portraits series Local2Local introduces young people who have been part of the Local2Local Talents journey. They share their experiences, learnings and views on the future of food.

This week, Maarten Klop (25) talks about how he feels that his love for nature and people is united in food. Maarten studied Global Sustainability Science at Utrecht University and first got in touch with Local2Local and Amped at the launch of Operation Food Freedom back in 2018. Watch the video interview and/or read the extended interview via this link
