Core Life Analytics, a Utrecht University spinoff co-founded by computer science alumnus Wienand Omta, has closed a 1 Million Euro financing round. The company markets the StratoMineR data analytics platform, which enables biologists to analyze complex biological datasets without the need for internal data analysis support. The investor team is composed of BOM Brabant Ventures, Utrecht Holdings and TechFund One.

Core Life Analytics was co-founded by Wienand Omta (CTO) together with David Egan (CEO) in 2016 to commercialize the StratoMineR data analytics platform. Wienand and David originally developed StratoMineR at the Cell Screening Core at the UMC Utrecht where Wienand was then working on his PhD. Wienand’s PhD was supervised by Prof Judith Klumperman (Cell Biology, UMC Utrecht) and Prof Sjaak Brinkkemper (Computer Science, Utrecht University).

Complex data sets

StratoMineR allows biologists in pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies and academia to independently analyze complex data sets. It helps to accelerate preclinical drug discovery projects at all stages, including target discovery, lead molecule identification, lead characterization and toxicology. The software has recently been used to identify novel inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Wienand Omta will defend his PhD thesis Knowledge Discovery in High Content Screening on 14 October.
