Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium named as leading 'Innovations That Inspire'

The Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium (TIPC), through the University of Sussex Business School, has been awarded the 2021 Innovations That Inspire award by AACSB International in recognition of the global impact and reach of the work on transformations for policy and systems. TIPC is one of the flagship projects of the Utrecht Centre for Global Challenges (UGlobe).

Matias Ramirez, Senior Lecture, PI and lead for the TIP Latin America Hub said:

“The Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium (TIPC) represents pioneering research and practice in the field of science, technology and innovation policy by academics from the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex Business School, and our partners at the Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges, Netherlands and INGENIO, Spain. Through TIPC, policy makers based in national STI agencies from our five member countries, from both the global north and south, have developed a policy framework that promotes not just more science and economic growth, but alternative sustainable pathways of development. Recognitions like this from AACSB alerts policymakers to leading-edge ideas and tools to make activities, such as energy production and mobility system, more sustainable.”

TIPC Academic Director, Founder, and previous Director of SPRU, Johan Schot, now Professor of Global History & Sustainability Transitions at the Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges said:

“I am very happy to see this recognition for Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) and the Consortium. It comes at a watershed moment in history when the world needs to address climate change; and the biodiversity and inequality crises.  Many express the need for system change, yet how we make systems change work is unclear. TIPC, using the TIPC Methodology, is experimenting with prototype projects on how to make this happen, globally and locally, with innovative experiments across our three regional hubs. Taking a Frame 3 perspective towards innovation, science and technology for policymakers, businesses and civil society is increasingly urgent and essential. This award shows we are at the leading edge of policy research and practice. Congratulations to the team!"
