Sprint facilities at Utrecht Science Park

Sprinten op het Utrecht Science Park
Intervaltraining on the 200m and 400m sprint tracks is an excellent way to improve your running speed.

In collaboration with Sportcentrum Olympos, Utrecht University has developed a number of sports facilities at Utrecht Science Park. These include 200m and 400m sprint tracks, a 5km running course and an Olympos mile, two playing fields for football, two volleyball courts and a bootcamp. See the map for the specific locations. Everyone is welcome to use these sports facilities.

The sprint tracks are for runners looking to improve their sprint times. The sprint tracks are also ideal for interval and time training for runners. If you would like some coaching, Sportcentrum Olympos offers running training sessions at different levels.

Interval training sessions of 200 and 400 metres are an excellent way to improve your running speed. Running these short distances regularly, with sufficient recovery time in between, trains your muscle power and coordination so as to be able to run longer distances faster. A suggested training plan is 10 to 15 x 200 metres high-intensity running interspersed with 200 metres of gentle jogging. The high-intensity 200 metres should be fast, but not at your maximum. If you are planning this sort of training, make sure you warm up properly first.
Another good training plan is 10 x 400 metres high-intensity, interspersed with ninety seconds of gentle jogging. Try to run each 400-metre block at the same pace.
