Professor Marleen van Rijswick in NWO article on workable water governance
A legal scholar and an engineer join forces
Professor of European and national water law Marleen van Rijswick (Utrecht University) and engineer Matthijs Kok are working together on workable innovations in water management. NWO interviewed them extensively about their collaboration.
In recent years, the lawyer and hydraulic engineer have worked together several times. At the moment they are both part of the All Risk Perspective Programme, of which Kok is the programme leader. The central question within this programme is how to better control and prevent flooding.
Marleen van Rijswick says about the collaboration: "Technicians ask me about the legal consequences of certain solutions, and I ask them whether certain legal formulations lead to solutions that are workable in practice."
