Post on law of the sea aspects raised by the Defend Europe campaign
Valentin J Schatz and Arron N Honniball have written a post on jurisdiction over the conduct of the C-Star vessel and its crew for Völkerrechtsblog, der Blog des Arbeitskreises junger Völkerrechtswissenschaftler*innen.
The C-Star was a privately funded and chartered vessel of Generation Identity, sent to “monitor” the activities of other non-governmental vessels involved in search and rescue off the Libyan coastline in July-August 2017. The C-Star’s journey from the port of Djibouti to the Libyan coastline was fraught with setbacks, raising numerous state responses and concurrent jurisdictions within the law of the sea.
