PhD position ‘Food for thought in COPD’

Vacancy at the Utrecht Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Job description

The consortium of the research program entitled “Food for thought and active life style in COPD” funded by TKI-Longfonds combines preclinical research and a proof of concept clinical trial to gain more insight into the contribution and mechanisms of lifestyle and pulmonary inflammation-induced disturbances of the microbiome-gut-brain axis and the muscle-brain axis that adversely affect disease progression and health status. The project aims to investigate, in a translational approach, the efficacy of nutritional intervention targeting dietary deficiencies and metabolic disturbances, on adherence to an active lifestyle in COPD via modulation of the gut-muscle-brain crosstalk under pulmonary and systemic inflammatory stress. In this project you will perform preclinical studies focusing on molecular mechanisms of this disturbed communication during disease exacerbations in established mouse models for COPD. The research will be carried out in the group of Prof Dr Gert Folkerts and Prof Dr Aletta Kraneveld embedded in the Division Pharmacology, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science at Utrecht University.

Application deadline is April 6.
